La Isla de la Fantasía podría tomarse como un largo capítulo piloto y en clave actual de la célebre serie de televisión protagonizada por Ricardo Montalbán que se emitiera entre 1978 y 1984.
Un grupo de turistas llega a una isla donde se materializa su principal deseo incumplido. En casi todos los casos, un evento del pasado que proyecta una pérdida, una frustración o una culpa y que debe ser reparado de algún modo.
La película apuesta a la mezcla de géneros: ciencia ficción, comedia, thriller, acción, drama, terror y reality de supervivencia y parece una combinación de Lost, Westworld, Dark y algunas otras series y películas que conviene no revelar.
Si bien es algo tonta, plantea una gran variedad de situaciones, climas, giros y cambios de puntos de vista que logran mantener enganchados al espectador y la convergencia de los personajes y sus líneas narrativas está más o menos lograda, dando como resultado una película divertida, ideal para un sábado a la noche.

The film bets on the mix of genres: science fiction, comedy, thriller, action, drama, horror and survival reality and seems a combination of Lost, Westworld, Dark and some other series and films that should not be revealed.

The 1970s TV show Fantasy Island, which starred Ricardo Montalban, has been given a new lease on life with a horror-inspired re-imagining by Jeff Wadlow, the director of Truth or Dare. The new film follows five guests as they visit a paradise island where they are promised that their wildest fantasies will come true, but soon discover that the island is deceitful and their fantasies begin to turn into nightmares.
However, this reimagining of Fantasy Island falls short of being a good movie. The characters are not relatable or likable, making it difficult for the audience to care about the stakes. Furthermore, the movie is not truly horror as it lacks suspense, atmosphere, and tension. The dialogue is weak and the island itself is the only redeeming factor. Overall, Fantasy Island is a forgettable movie that is best left unseen.
