En una mansión privada de Malibú, el millonario Kenji Takeo y su hija Miko esperan la llegada de Japón de Kumiko, la esposa de Kenji. Su calma no durará mucho, puesto que un grupo de asesinos ninja asalta el lugar y acaba con la vida del cabeza de familia. El detective Jack Barrett llega al lugar del crimen y entrevista a Miko, la única testigo, que tan sólo consigue articular una palabra, 'kokushibyu', que quiere decir 'Muerte Negra'.
